2023 / Let There Be Light is a photographic series operating purely on the basic principle of photography itself - light. This work is created from the beginning to end in the darkroom using pointer lasers, light sensitive photo paper and cut glass. Together this combination shapes and transforms the light into abstract imagery which is caught with light sensitive paper and then tray developed. There is no form of a camera used in this process yet the end result depicts the original Greek meaning of the word photograph - a light painting. This process is challenging the idea that photography is a way of capturing a specific portion of a reflected light of a specific space and breaks down photography to its most simple elements. At the same time the viewer is left to decide what they see - similar to Rorschach's test, what the viewer sees can depend on a person, time and point of view. These images can resemble water, lines, spider webs, specific objects, animals or nothing at all. Let There Be Light plays with our perception, our subconscious and visuality itself.
Let There Be Light has also been put into a book carrying the same name. The series works both as a book and independent prints.
